THE HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP - GARAPEN BIDEAN is a non-profit association. Our main objective is to promote human Rights as the cornerstone of peoples’ development.

To this end, GARAPEN BIDEAN is involved in research projects related to human rights and in the organization of awareness-raising and education activities. We also belong to different networks and working groups that foster development based on the observance of human rights.

According to the High Commissioner for Human Rights, human rights are universal and belong to everyone equally. They protect both individuals and groups from acts or omissions that affect human dignity.

Human rights have unprecedented political support in our times, but we still face numerous challenges in terms of their full observance in different contexts, and we ought to create adequate mechanisms for all peoples, groups and individuals.

Every poverty reduction strategy at the global scale must be grounded in human rights as the starting point and in our active participation as citizens that are permanently committed with their observance.

Human rights are violated in many different ways. We are morally and ethically bound to organize in favor of debt remission, the opening of our markets to produce and textiles from the global South, fighting inequity in the distribution of wealth, and against a unitary mindset focused on private benefit...

We shall become true advocates of universal, indivisible and interdependent human rights. GARAPEN BIDEAN, based on reflection and analysis, aims at collective organization to enhance networks of groups with similar ideals and vision.
